Welcome to our first blog post for our new website for Handara Golf & Resort Bali. Over the coming weeks and months (and years!) we aim to provide you with loads of useful information that will be interesting for golfers, provide useful information on where to play and perhaps even help you score better.

Let’s start today by looking at an overview of golf in Indonesia.

Handara Golf & Resort Bali has very nice greens to play golf onIf you are traveling to Indonesia and you are a golf enthusiast, you are in for a treat. There are lots of adventures in golf awaiting you here. The golf courses in Indonesia appeal to all levels of players. The beginner or recreational player will enjoy them as will a professional player. The courses are definitely high quality and they are built in spectacular settings that most golfers find very attractive.  We are always a bit biased here in Handara Golf & Resort Bali as we happen to have one of the most beautiful golf locations in Indonesia.

It is common to find golf courses in and around the major cities of Indonesia. Over the last few decades, developers have built several world class courses in different locations. Some are built on sea cliffs, on lake shores, one is in a volcanic crater, on the sides of mountains, in valleys, tropical rain forest and even in the rice paddies.

As is common around world’s golf courses, business relationships are formed on the course and deals cemented there as well. Managers from different countries play golf as they have discovered the advantage of this to their businesses when they compete with other expatriates or local Indonesian businessmen.

Indonesian Golf Courses

The golf courses can be found all over the archipelago clear across from Papua to Aceh and of course here in Bali. Most of them are found on the more populated islands of Java close to Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Surabaya and Bandung. Within a 60 min radius of Jakarta, you will find 43 different golf courses.

You can find a large number of other Indonesian golf courses close to tourism sites and smaller towns. To enjoy a golf experience that is absolutely unique, you can visit Papua, Bali, North Sulawesi, Aceh, East Kalimantan, Medan, South Kalimantan, Pekanbaru, South Sulawesi, Bintan Island, Lombok, West Sumatera, East Kalimantan, Bengkulu, West Kalimantan, South Sumatera, Batam and Lampung.

Not all the golf courses are considered championship courses, but a good number are and in fact some are par-72 courses. Many Indonesian golf courses are designed by world-class designers including Desmond Muirhead, Jack Nicklaus, Walter Raleigh Stewart, Jack Nicklaus II, Gary Player, Thomson, Woveridge & Perret, Graham Marsh, Rodney Wright and Robin Nelson, Robert Trent Jones Jr., and Greg Norman. The stunning 18 Holes Golf Course at Handara Golf & Resort was designed by five times British Open Champion, Peter Thomson, with his design associates, Michael Wolveridge and Ronald Fream.

Well, my tee time is fast approaching and so I need to get out on the course.  I will finish this article over the coming days so look forward to more information about golf in Indonesia shortly.
